The Michael Kors Plan

After a quick search on the various pattern company websites and browsing through my own collection of patterns, I found one that I believe will serve very nicely for my interpretation of Michael Kors' wool/spandex sheath.

I purchased Simplicity 2337 during a JoAnn pattern sale in October 2011, and plan to use View B for my version.

I initially overlooked this pattern as an option because View B has shoulder embellishments and the side-front seams are closer to the dress's center than the original design.  But, I had to remind myself that my version does not have to be a literal interpretation.  So upon further review of the pattern's croquis, I determined View B could easily be used with some design modifications - specifically, the button tabs on the dress front.

I've also decided to line the dress, thus eliminating the armhole and neckline facings, so I'll be working with 3 pattern pieces, plus my front tab...that's it!

Next will be to find a fabric choice for this dress.  I like the idea of using a wool-based fabric because they tend to be lightweight and breathe - important considerations for a spring/summer garment - yet, it could still be worn into fall/winter by coordinating with other seasonally colored and/or designed garments and accessories.  Yep...I'm digging this dress!

Be blessed!

  2. Hi Aisha - I attempted to post a comment yesterday, but something seems to have happened to it - I was going to suggest buying a sheath and adding your own tabs, which is exactly what you are doing! It will be lovely.
