BLC Day 11: Deconstruction and Empire Inspo

It's been quite a whirlwind for the past couple of days, and I'm so glad to shift my focus back to my favorite topic - SEWING!!!  I think I mentioned a couple of times that I follow many blogs, some of which focuses on refashioning clothing, most often using thrift store finds - i.e. RefashionistaThe Renegade Seamstress and Thriftanista in the City.  Each of these bloggers has her own techniques she uses to restyle an existing garment.  I tend to do a full deconstruction to see what pieces I'm working with, especially if I intend to use a traditional sewing pattern to make the final project.  This was the process I used for my leopard print skirt, and it's what I'm using for the wool and leather coat I mentioned on Sunday.

Look at how nasty these shoulder pads look.

They are literally disintegrating.  I had to make 4 passes with my lint roller to remove the residue they left on my ironing surface

While pulling the coat apart, I remembered this scene from a season 1 Empire episode.  Andre, who struggles with bipolar disorder, had a breakdown and his wife, Rhonda, had to signed him in for inpatient treatment.  The scene was clearly intended to be an emotional, tumultuous moment for these characters.  What was I thinking?

Oh, that's messed up, girl.  But, that jacket though?  Loving that white wool!

Oh, and the zipper on the sleeve's contrasting leather cuff!

Wait!  Do I see two different fabrics on this jacket?  Oh, yes - loving that contrast!!

Yep...I definitely have style preferences in clothing designs...IJS

Be blessed!
